Posts related to enshittification of our cities, how to change it.
Propaganda for pushing municipal reforms. Goal of this general is to push for cities where
>proper public infra - walkable , cycling and metro/metro lite or buses
>proper greenary, promotion of local breeds of plants and trees to improve aesthetics of the cities
>public parks and gyms
>dedicated marketplace instead of unorganized hawkers
>PM Gulag yojana against those who occupy sidewalks, destroy public infra.
>Reclaim lakes
>Complete anhilation of slums and replacing those with commie block like few of the works under PM Awas Yojana.
More ideas are welcome. We will look back at history and the present and plan for the future. We need the autist power to demolish dehatis and make our cities best and beautiful as the God intended.

7 point program for city reorientation
- PPP Models for cityscaping
- Focus on Public Transport and Footpath/Pedestrians
- Levelled footpaths made of concrete instead of elevated ones made of interlocked brick
- Hawking and Hoarding should be made a crime or at best, should be regulated, allowed only for a certain time period
- Proper and good bold demarcation on Roads
- Integrated waste management and sanitation mechanisms
- Create riverfronts and walkways/Cycling paths wherever necessary

>- PPP Models for cityscaping
I have been digging through documents of smart city program, by digging through i mean going through their about section and it seems something like that being was either planned or is under plan through it.
> Emphasis has been given on the participation of private sector through Public Private Partnerships (PPP). Citizens’ aspirations were captured in the Smart City Proposals (SCPs) prepared by the selected cities. Aggregated at the national level, these proposals contained more than 5,000 projects worth over Rs. 2,00,000 crores, of which 45 percent is to be funded through Mission grants, 21 percent through convergence, 21 percent through PPP and rest from other sources.
https://smartcities.gov.in/about-the-mission
>The state governments were asked to nominate potential cities with the overall count across India limited to 100.[8] A hundred cities have been selected so far to be upgraded as part of the Smart Cities Mission.[9][10] Each city will create a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) headed by a CEO to implement the projects under mission.[11]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Cities_Mission
I agree that it was oversold but there are lots of programs under this, there's a section 'cities' in the smart city page where those cities can be visited which are under smart city program. It has detailed maps on all sorts of things for each city along with various works being done.
I genuinely think it should have been pushed further so as swachch bharat mission.

For instance, Chennai has implemented bicycle lanes spanning 17 kilometers in areas like T Nagar, Velachery, and Besant Nagar, enhancing non-motorized transport options. Similarly, Udaipur has reclaimed 4,800 square meters of space for pedestrians and cyclists, promoting non-motorized transportation.
>Initiated in November 2020 by MoHUA, the Streets for People Challenge encourages cities to create walking-friendly streets through quick, innovative, and low-cost interventions. The challenge supports cities in developing a unified vision of streets for people, focusing on placemaking and livability.
>As of April 2022, over 40 new cities embarked on the journey to become walking-friendly as part of Season 2 of the challenge. The initiative has seen cities testing pedestrian-friendly streets, traffic-calmed areas, and safe intersections through temporary interventions, with plans to convert these into permanent infrastructure in subsequent stages.
>In December 2021, MoHUA announced eleven winning cities for the Streets for People Challenge, recognizing their efforts in creating pedestrian-friendly zones and promoting active mobility.

In case anyone is lurking, the solution for loser municipal bodies are Corporatization of the cities though they can have politicians on the board of sorts.
Smart city has some real good progress. Use that template, improve further - implement.
within city
>increase green cover
>avoid lodus who want to be 'overpass' through the city for 'de-congestion'
>rather introduce - metro lite for city with population 3mn or lover
>metro for those above
>public bus services
>pedestrian and cycle infra - hybrid under green cover.
Green cover has series of benefits.
Since it would be immoral to take away source of income from poor, created dedicated market place for thela etc.
remove and punish retards who try to occupy sidewalks...
limit cars within the city, force babus to walk only then they will realize.
one of the things visible currently is that babus only travel through car.
big politicians only travel along the specific route in car.
both results in deluded perception of reality.
make them walk through the kachra, dodging n issues only then they will realize the plight of common hooman.

2nd one is also from usa - new york but it's kinda hilarious how bad their roads are. I have never seen in main areas of my own city such bad roads.

Chennai is planning 30 new parks, summary
>The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to develop 30 new parks in the city's peripheral areas, including Madhavaram, Manali, Sholinganallur, and Perungudi, at an estimated cost of ₹60 crore. These regions currently lack substantial green spaces, often featuring only small roadside parks under one acre. In contrast, central Chennai boasts several large parks exceeding 10 acres, such as the 358-acre Adyar Eco Park restored in 2011. Of the city's 835 parks, only 24 are larger than 2.4 acres, with just two located in the peripheral zones. The GCC is identifying Open Space Reservation (OSR) lands and other unused properties for these new parks to enhance recreational opportunities and address the city's green space deficit, which stands at 5%, significantly below the global recommendation of 33%.

Saw someone posting about vizag infra, it's pretty alright.
Problem is the same, new chunk of infra has sidewalk, better road lights etc.
But we are not there yet - the 'as a whole' approach is not visible.
You will have one section which is pretty amazing and people just share it but there's like 80% of the area which is broken roads etc.
There's also lack of specialization which is visible when you dig deeper, sign boards are missing, garbage etc. or ill maintained areas besides roads.
Still alright.

>Bhalswa landfill is an overfilled landfill waste dumping site located in Delhi, India; it is over 60 metres (200 ft) high.
>The site opened in 1994 and was declared overfilled in 2006, but remains in use, receiving more than 2,300 tons dumped daily in 2021.
>In 2022, the heap measured over 62 meters (203 feet).[3]
>The site is a major source of environmental pollution, fire hazards, and public health and safety issues.
> A 2022 study of groundwater surrounding the nearby Bhalswa Lake found none of the water was fit for consumption.
>Prime Minister Modi has included removal of landfills in India's Clean India Mission.[3]
