At this point it's no secret that i have extreme aversion towards how social media platforms are being run, twitter - the ragebait engine, instagram - the lobotomizer, facebook - the psyops den, reddit - the bot battleground. Chans - mix of all of these. When the internet boom happened, ignoring other than the initial military role, it was envisioned to be a place - meta heaven - where people could share information (information not mere data), connect with each other, learn, and a vehicle of mostly positive actions. Though critics are always there - the general sentiment was positive. Over the period of www boom, we had a period where it was like that but eventually the monopoly over information began - we can go in detail about the susceptibility of underlying infra but let's stick to presentation layer mostly. Forums merged under single platforms like reddit, twitter/facebook eating up the places for those with beautiful blogs. so on. Every decentralized, stuff was further centralized. In general it was better that's why it succeeded in many ways - people could easily create their own profiles, post better without worrying about hosting, they could connect with anyone easily without the hassle. It streamlined the steps. But that's where the issue began, that was the sweet poison. More monopoly, more centralization, more hoarding of data, and eventually comes what everyone could have feared. As always comes the recommendation engine, back in early 2010s we found articles of facebook manipulating - successfully, mood of its users as a part of 'research'. It's my conjecture that such program never went away rather were weaponized in different part of the world by the american giant, recent examples point towards Bangladesh and maybe Nepal being another instance. I still think facebook is more effective but there's a class of people who migrated to twitter - this is more influential middle class many a times. And this is where next set of operations began. Based on how the regime in USA changes, the social media behaviour was accommodated since they are well from USA and serve secondary interest to regime. From the days of liberalism or related ideas promotion to now ragebait cycles. Twitter is one such place, idea is to create chaos - enough chaos and move the news cycle so fast that people can't track what is the real issue what isn't. I believe the initial experiments for these were done on likes of 4chan and the term to call out these astroturf was 'slide threads', those terms couldn't save 4chan but yeah now it's happening at even larger scale through twitter etc. Interesting thing is not this, it's probably the fact that it's no matter left or right propagation of social media - bottom line is always the same that all this eventually serves the interest of USA. Reddit despite being so 'left-liberal' all of their events or promotions are such which justify the actions of usa in middle east, exploitation of other countries - though it is also the containment for those who oppose to relieve the public pressure and keep them in a hellish torment. On twitter it's different, they cultivated a culture, through dehumanization of the groups where any actions of USA rather it would seem like these 'hate groups' are actually asking USA and american body is complying by targeting other countries and it's celebrated. Anyway my issue is not whether they are doing that, my issue is that people see china, india bans TikTok and other chinese services because we see clear meddling but same is not being done in case of USA which probably more effectively wields these weapons. We know about the exploits in processors which my own pc is currently running on, exploits on social media, os, and what and yet - our government and most of the world is completely blind to it. Intentionally so. And when these are exploited, our people are being torned apart, countries are being torned apart, regime changes. And yet it's not considered a threat. Amidst all of this aside, i feel bad because this ragebait, these psyops are killing our humanity. They want to radicalize each groups to the point people forget about their own mortality, the world they are part of and sacrifice themselves at the altar of someone else's narrative. No one is immune, some are more conscious of their actions, some are conscious and against but helpless, some are just pure evil and who cloak themselves well. The meta heaven turned into a meta hell, but it's captivating, so many cultures so many stories point hell as if it's some hot boiling lava in the netherworld, etc. but what we are seeing is worse, it's a shell filled with medium of dopamine hits and once person addicted to it can never snap out of it. You can drag that person out and he will run back towards it. There's no solution but complete escape, maybe even forceful one. But you can't have keep people out of this meta-heaven turned hell for long if the reality is depressing and hence everything should be done to make our reality actual reality beautiful. And this is why the people who are pushing everything like these are against such reality.
