They have sacrificed their family life for their work.
They feel obliged to justify this, and as a result start to project their emotional attachment to their job.
Now if you're talking about resigning, in their eyes you are disrupting harmony. Even though it's not their money, they have assumed the motherly role of guarding it.
So the natural consequence of it becomes needless cruelty towards their juniors in order to appease more senior members of their family.
The longer you stay, the worse their metrics become and the less cummies she gets from higher managers.
