So I was talking to a friend about quantum computers, and they explained some pretty mind-bending stuff:

Quantum computers use qubits instead of normal bits — meaning they can be 0 and 1 at the same time (like Schrödinger’s cat being alive and dead at once).

They rely on superposition and entanglement to do crazy calculations that normal computers or humans would take ages to solve.

They can (in theory) factor huge numbers, search massive databases, and simulate molecules way faster than any human or classical computer could dream of.

BUT — because of the No-Cloning Theorem, they can't even copy themselves.

AND — they haven’t solved any of the big Millennium Prize math problems yet (except the Poincaré one, but that was solved by a human).

So it sounds like quantum computers are insanely fast... but only at very specific things. For everyday problem-solving, thinking creatively, making judgment calls humans are still way ahead.

This got me thinking, Are quantum computers really going to "change everything" like people say, or are they just an overhyped niche tool?

/b/, what do you guys think? Will quantum machines ever truly "replace" human intelligence — or are they just glorified calculators stuck in the lab forever?

well yes but my friend caught me off guard, he said that these AIs can replicate itself and program several of each, he also said that these ais solved the 7 unsolved maths problems in minutes

Both of these claims are wrong, But i still want to gather more info and opinions by bhaicels on ai vs humans in general

I remember chickenpill once made good posts about this, I was hoping some anons would enlighten me on this

there will be progressive development: you won't just wake up to news of these computers solving the millennium problems

secondly, it'll take a long time as of now for these to be 'usable', more than 30-40 years atleast

thirdly, we are just speculating, its the same as "we will have robots and flying cars in 2020" by the people of early 90s

Simple answer is that quantum computers have too high of an error rate right now for performing more complex calculations and also normal computers are still faster than quantum computers for many types of calculations.

human brain is far more complex, but it too works on same principles of neurons firing being analogous to logic gates,

brains are very similar to ai models, they have 'evolved' over thousands of years optimising paths, implementing and keeping the connections that work
