i have seen most literate and high iq tards manipulating scriptures, i have read more of bhagavadgita than most hindoos here. even i have my own understanding but i don't debate as an authority that is with the actual gurus and shankaracharyas.
but that is one aspect, the reason for babas as a nourishing entity is not religion for me in fact i would compare it to church among christian. it's to provide a sense of community, someone who can listen to the problems and just be there for those people. this is where these guys have roles to play.
everyone knows the solution but sometimes you need others to be there for you. in a continuous fractured society they are most important.
