I think he's just an archetypical cope to try to wrestle some power back from Kshatriyas by justifying some manner of legitimacy for Brahmins while also trying to discredit the legitimacy of Kshatriyas.

It's a pattern we see in a lot of societies where the priestly class attempts to usurp power from a knightly class, and sometimes succeeds.

This largely becomes irrelevant in the long run due to presence of steppe nomads bringing about the next Assabiyah/Dynastic cycle, and becoming the next ruling class, until they get fully absorbed and integrated.

Ignoring the metaphorical interpretations here for ke cause I do not believe any story is just invented. There are usually real figures involved in the events. Tell me what do you think of my tribal theory?

Well, in the first place, how do you define tribal?

Usually, they are people who do not have sustained agriculture and sedentary lifestyle.

They might be nomadic or semi Nomadic.

Are we talking about not adhering to the mainstream society? I guess that's also an element.

It's plausible but then, it fits the pattern, just with castist overtones.

Yeah I think he was a figure from a Tribal or Adivasi tribe or maybe even a Brahman who was part of tribal culture (note lot of Brahman had their settler colonies all over forests of India) . Kinda like someone who lives in forests and relies on hunting gathering or semi agriculture
