Probably because Magnus improved, or read his game and Gukesh can't surprise him any more or build pressure on him as he develops his pieces, it could also be Gukesh is being "paid" but let's be real, even if probability of that is never zero, (because Magnus won't wish to lose his title as the number 1) it is seriously low. It's just far more easy to believe Gukesh is good but Magnus is really just better player.
