first you need to get an affidavit made from a lawyer with a notary stamp. it should happen in one day. just go there with your documents, ask lawyer to make you an affidavit for income. give whatever details he asks. he will probably ask a typist to type it. just stay with the typist and make sure he types it correctly. give the details that typist asks for.

then, the lawyer will put a bunch of stamps on that thang, take it, and vanish for about half an hour. then he will return with the notary stamp on it, you have to sign it in his presence then take that shit to a nearby gobermint seva kendra, or a Common Service Centre(CSC). Then the CSC guy will apply for your income certificate. Then it will come back, usually happens within a week. Now you have an income certificate.

Then, you will have the copy, but he(the CSC guy) will scan that shit and apply for your EWS certificate. It has to be approved by the Circle Officer of your Zone. It can take anywhere from a couple of weeks till the heat death of the universe to approve it.

You will have 2 options - Either keep nagging the CSC guy, or you can just go to the nearest circle office of your district. Mine is just 30 minutes away. So I chose to go there and nag the Circle Officer's assistant instead. He's usually the one that approves your document when the Circle Officer is not in his office, which is all the time. Once it has been approved, go back to the CSC guy, he will give you print out of the EWS document.

Rules:

If you have the EWS made after April of an year, it will remain valid until the end of that year.

If you have the EWS made before the April of an year, it will remain valid till the last day of March.

And yes, you will have to make a new one every year.
