Growing up my uncle got possessed, became extremely ill, despite medications his health only worsened, became adhmara starving kankaal basically, my family had to get some obscure rituals done at our native place, only then he got well, he is still alive today.
Another uncle who worked as a manager in State Bank, had to do daily up down by road in fucking Jharkhand, he has seen ghosts multiple times.
Nothing cinematic, but once he saw a man with shiny blood red eyes standing below a tree.
Infact you will hear similar stories from train and truck drivers.

Guess my time to tell what I saw
>Be me
>Go to Japan
>Shibuya, Tokyo
>Wander to this old part of the market even in Shibuya
>See Old books sign in Kanji
>Get in the building
>Distinct smell of old buildings
>Think, "Damn, there must be ghosts in here"
>Go up a floor to the shop
>It's just a dude my age
>Browse the shelves
>Hear footsteps around
>Must be some uncle
>See an old uncle at the corner of my eye
>Can see him and hear footsteps
>Too busy checking weird books
>Turn around the corner to where the ojiisan must have been
>There's nobody
>There was nobody
>Decide to not act up, must be due to lack of sleep or too much walking.
A few days later
>In Kamakura
>Get out of museum
>"Damn, many people died here"
>Hear a second set of footsteps follow me
>Must be echo
>Stop
>Second set of footsteps stops after a few extra steps
>Walk again
>It starts walking again after me
>Can hear it to my side and behind me
>Walk until shrine
>Crow sees me with suspicion and caws
>Crow flies and sits right at the sign which has the name and history of the shrine
>Read it all
>Walk ahead into the shrine
>No footsteps
>Spend some time inside, make prayer, and get out
>No more footsteps
Later that evening
>Walk to Enoshima
>Climb up the mountain at night
>Visit the shrines and go ahead
>Two dudes are walking ahead
>Follow them
>They go on for some 4 kms ahead
>Abandoned old town at night
>All shops are closed
>Nobody but those two dudes and me
>They eventually read the end of the path
>There's just cliffs
>Massive waves hitting the stones
>Feels like something is off
>Turn around and walk away at a sprint
>The path feels much longer than before
>Keep going
>Turn around to see at the shore
>There are no dudes, there's nobody.
>Turn back and keep going till I get back to civilisation
>Walk back to the station and get back to hotel

I haven't seen much in India
Except for the incidents where I saw a fan burn, or when a ghost locked me in a room, and such.
But never seen people or heard footsteps of those without a physical body.

there are a lot of urban legends. it shouldn't be generalised only to hills because you arent aware of them. personally ive never experienced any paranormal activity but their anecdotes are fun to listen to
