Iron age itself in india after PGW culture which is after IVC etc. I am not well read on how various kingdoms in south came into being but closest i recall is that fall of kurus, rise of mahajanpadas and eventually rise of mauryan empire and ashoka empire - iron age period we get details from ashokan edicts where he mentions that down south his kingdom bordered likes of cholas etc. and they would share medicinal knowledge, herbs, other help.
But overall - even from neolithic iranians to obviously later kingdoms deep south was too far, too extended to have reduced influence, even genetically but cultural influence carried on which is more visible like mixing of Kartikey who was primary deity of Yaudheyas in Haryana region to that of venerated god Murugan in south.
Even during Kuru kingdom, which is probably the first kingdom in northern india or in india there were most likely cultural centers in down south - i am clueless though in what form but people were there for certain. They had their culture, metallurgy knowledge etc.
I am very clueless here on what was happening in down south - though point to note that spread of neolithic farmers from ivc to south was probably decent enough to criss cross the cultural, trade aspect possibly so it might not be as secluded from the northern counterpart as we might imagine.

We don't have much records about south india. But we do know that Aryan kingdom extended all the way to Avanti. Other than that we have sm remains of kayastha culture , and one in Odisha. This was from the period of 7000 to 3000bc.
Farming is earliest dated to 3000 bc , and scholars estimate it to be due to interactions from North IVC, but I think now it's believed farming arose independently.
The earliest proper records wehave actually does come from Sangam Era Poetry , from 3rd century bc, and there are already hints of Indo Aryan religion and Sanskrit here so, it's likely the spreadof Aryanism to south wasn't due to conquests like in North but due to Brahminical settler colonies.

This unironically is due to famine culture, where rice and such means are easy to fill up on.
