step 4 - progress stalled for 20-30 years, project outdated by the time people wake up to the reality

Yes you are right. But your also Missing the point. Kaveri was originally meant for fighter jets but couldn't make high thrust reliably. So it is a good engine for UAVs, because it couldnt fulfill its original objective, to power a fighter jet. Imagine, producing only 52 kilonewton thrust wo afterburner despite being in development for 30 years. Embarrassing for India tbh.

Kaveri has only had a fraction of the support in both political and economic terms.

Being a mechanical engineer myself, I can say for a fact that all intelligent students who do well in academics ang get good JEE ranks all opt for computers/electronics branches. Even the few mechanical engineer who are smart switch to IT for better pay. That is why India hasn't been able to figure out crystal blade technology. Hope India gets full technology transfer from snecma, i read some article today that France is ready to give full technology transfer.

Most engineers in just country are just interested in rotemaxxing or using daddy's money to buy a degree to then try and immigrate to phoren.

I am an IT guy and let me tell you, most it engineers that have passed in the country in the last 10 years are just worthless.

Until we make research a well funded and lucrative career option most lundians will just choose to careermaxx with consumer focused jobs. Folks in the west also careermaxx but research bonuses mean they can do so by pursuing pure research.

If India is serious about building a jet engine, atleast they can poach top talent from Pratt and Whitney, GE and Rolls Royce. I imagine a few Indians engineers probably work there. Poaching foreign talent is also what china does. So far, it worked pretty well for them. Playing devils advocate though, the west will start crying about industrial espionage if India starts hiring foreign talent.
