we manufacture flankers from pretty much raw material level - few parts are sourced form russia (even engines are made by us - we even upgraded it to improve their performance).
we can also make engines, a kaveri dry thrust engine is stable - we can work together with L&T, godrej, bharat forge to work on improving its core, reducing weight - we even develop technology for crystal blade structures. if it had more fund, test bed etc. life cycle for a new jet engines using Kaveri learning can be achieved in 8 years.

We lack funds for kaveri project and a national ambition for it.
If it is bought as a national mission and fund is injected we can have it in less than a decade.
Overall we spent less than 250 million usd on our jet engine program. Kaveri dry thrust of 52kN it kinda matches to likes of GE414 which were kinda state of the art. There were issues but resolved.
Dry kaveri will be used for UCAV program. There was another program but slow for using Kaveri engines for naval ships - i am not aware of the status.
We don't even have testbed for it so we send it to russia for testing then bring back.
If we prioritize we can get it done.

Once in a while we see presentation by scientist of DRDO, last information is that kaveri dry thrust did great while on test in russia.
It wil be used for UCAV program. I think iirc L&T is producing 8 of these currently. That's all i know.

Both can be done. GIFT is good - anyone who has been following infra creams reading about their service tunnels etc.
Kaveri should be national priority - i think we did see reports of it but i am forgetting the context.

Yeah about this cuz rocket engines have to work for like 300s to 500s at best. Yes they can start and restart etc. There's whole research on materials, cooling methods used by various rockets.
Engines like Raptor are straight of the art and as difficult as jet engines. Because of their reusability aspects.

This is only one among them, others being Nuclear Powerplant (both Thorium and Uranium based) etc. We should never forget the (((deaths))) of Homi bhabha, vikram sarabhai and the nambi narayan case.
